Peaceful
We are relatively new to camping in spite of being in our 70s. Our friends showed us Chief White Crane and we've been been back many times over the last 4 years. So peaceful and scenic. The lake is beautiful and the park maintained exceptionally. Love it!

Great place
We absolutely LOVE this park. The only thing we don’t like are all of the wonky trees every where. We are always so afraid that in high wind one will fall and smash our camper. Would be nice if they were cut down. Aside from that, the parks is spectacular. The fishing is great, the little lake is great for canoeing, and the swim beach is handy. We love the bike trail the runs around the park. Aside from the scary trees (which one has fallen on a camper before), we love it there.

Chief white Crane was great staff at lewis and Clark was terrible
Booked two cabins at Lewis and Clark the older lady at the desk was extremely rude, wouldn't let us in, online I booked pet friendly cabins we almost decided to go home 100 miles, then we were allowed to rent from Chief White Crane much friendlier very polite, I love Lewis and Clark hate the staff the host there is nice but the staff at the gate will be why I won't be going back.

Cabin 10 Stay
We love the area and the overall experience at Chief White Crane but the cabin we stayed in was filthy when we arrived. The trash wasn’t taken out and there was mud footprints on the floor when we arrived. I get that it’s a cabin and won’t be perfect but it’s clear that the cabin wasn’t cleaned in between guests.

Fall camping at its best! Staying in SD parks is always good, but when we go in the fall it is especially great. The sites are so large and well laid out, we enjoy nature even with a full campground.

Campgrounds were quiet and clean. Restrooms were clean. Showers are actual showers and not just the push button type which is great. Lake Yankton is a great place for kayaking, canoeing, paddle boards, etc. and the fishing is great.

I do a lot of camping and I have noticed that the signage is lacking, if your not from the area its hard to figure out how to get to area highways and or interstates. I also kayak a lot and more kayak launches would be nice. Cabins could use more access to bathrooms also.

Love Chief White Crane
We love camping at Chief White Crane and will make it a yearly location. We stayed in a camp spot and a cabin. We accidently left behind a stuffed animal after Sunday checkout. Had it not been for staff cleaning the cabin and asking us (we were across from the cabin in our campsite), we would have had one sad child.
There's so many opportunities to hike and bike. We spent the entire weekend biking and enjoying the quiet of the campground. The kids were a little disappointed the hatchery was closed but we were camping after Labor Day and expected to have less access.

SD State parks
We’ve stayed in a number of SD State parks. So far all are super clean, modern, well maintained with level well spaced sites. Quality parks other states should try to emulate.
