With its more than 140 campsites and 10 camping cabins, Chief White Crane Recreation Area is a great place for groups to gather to spend the weekend. Combined with its own facilities and the features of the other two state parks nearby, Lewis & Clark and Pierson Ranch, visitors can take advantage of a wide variety of recreation opportunities. Snug one-room cabins sleep four in a set of bunk beds and a double bed. Stay in comfort in a picturesque setting with heating, air conditioning and electricity. Dine outdoors using the picnic table and fire grate. Don't forget to bring bedding, cooking utensils and a cooler for food storage. Campers may choose from non-electrical and electrical sites, and for a few dollars more, upgrade to a waterfront site. Once at Chief White Crane Recreation Area, enjoy the park's amenities: picnic shelter, playground, comfort station with showers and flush toilets and game checkout. Chief White Crane Recreation Area is one of the South Dakota state parks that offers the opportunity for visitors to see the majestic bald eagle. In South Dakota, many bald eagles spend their winters below the Missouri River dams where they are able to catch fish and prey on waterfowl attracted to the open water. They typically perch within 50 feet of the riverbank in tall cottonwood trees. The birds usually feed in the morning and rest in their roosting trees in the afternoon.

Open Year-round with vehicle traffic prohibited November 15 through the last Friday in March due to bald eagle nesting. Between Oct. 1 and April 30 water systems may be closed. Please contact the park directly for current status.
