Pierson Ranch Recreation Area, 4.5 miles west of Yankton,
opened in 1959 and is the oldest campground in the area. It was the first
campground to be constructed after Gavins Point Dam was completed. The area
offers 67 50-amp electric campsites and 2 one-room log-style cabins. Cabins
have accommodation for four people, including air conditioning/heat and
electricity. Park amenities include a large day-use area with
tennis/pickle ball courts, 18-hole disc golf course, soccer goals, non-profit
youth group tent area and 2 large picnic shelters that are popular for family
reunions and large group picnics.
