Great as expected

The bathrooms are soooo far away!! Why are they so far from the cabin?

peaceful quiet getaway

Clay County is our little "go to" place to camp. Honestly, there isn't anything extravagant about it. Just a quaint, peaceful, place to be. Even when it is full of other campers it has been wonderful and relaxing. One of our favorites are the trails. My wife utilizes them everyday when we are there for walks/runs. Most of the campsites are far enough apart that you aren't right on top of each other. There's lots of room between you and another camper. There are fire rings and picnic tables. There's a play area for the littles and two showerhouses. The oldest really needs a do-over and both need much better ventilation Improvements needed are better ventilation in the shower houses. A box fan does very little for air movement. In the newer shower-house the floor by the handicap shower is weak and needs support. I think if the edge/lip could be built up (or different shower surround) it would help; or another drain just outside of it. Previous staff added more shower links to make the curtain longer but it doesn't prevent water from going out onto the floor. These are just minor issues and won't deter us from staying.

Best Camping

This campground is a well kept gem. Beautiful surroundings with trails through the woods. You can easily hike over o the Missouri River, quite a sight to see. Great for those who love to fish. Just a block beyond the campground is the boat launch/picnic area. It’s very nice as well.

Overnight

Nice campground with plenty of shade. Overnight stay while following the Lewis & Clark Trail They would have approved. Friendly, helpful campground host as well.

Nice place, but......

Very nice campground, shady, clean restrooms and shower. Bad part about this park is you have to call a number to get a site. I, for one, camp to get away from everything, i dont carry my phone all the time, im retired. What happened to cash transactions? Ridiculous that we pay for a site, but also get an AGENT FEE, because we called the number. I wont be back to this park, because i dont like the "NO CASH, ONLY DIGITAL" deal.

Get Out and Enjoy the Outdoors!

Quiet and peaceful camping! Improvement: adjust the light timer to stay on longer in the newer women’s bathroom! Nothing worse than having the lights go out while using it!

This park is absolutely amazing! The people camping were so nice and amazing people! We have a little one so the park and swings were perfect! The place is very clean and easy to navigate to and around! We are ready to come back already!

Clay County Park no longer a diamond in the rough

The place has never looked better. Lots of attention has been paid to trimming back cottonwoods. Which have been a concern in the past. Resident manager couple do an outstanding job to keep the place in great condition.

Great park but online registration confusion.

Park is in best shape ever. This from nonresident who has camped here morevthan a dizen times in the past ten years. Bathroom and grounds in excellent condition. Great host! Have non res park entrance permit. Could find nowhere online to get this credited to my charge.

Best Paradise campground

Clay County Campground is our favorite place to camp. It's a simple, rustic campground that is so peaceful. There are not full hookups but you do have electricity. The campground is nestled in large mature Cottonwood trees and literally surrounded and protected by, I am not sure how to call it, but I will say a forest or grove. The walking trails are the best part. Usually well kept up but it was still early in the season and we had some rain. I walk and run the trails and there are so may different ways you can go. Walking along the outer edges, near the cropland, you have an opportunity to see deer and turkey. There is alway the opportunity to watch squirrels playing around. I am looking forward to returning soon to enjoy some of the wild treats - blackberries, gooseberries, currants and mulberries. Inside the campground, along with the sounds of the campers you can relax to the the chorus of different birds. If you are a fisherman, boater or canoer you can venture down to the river. If you like to shoot guns there is a gun (club) range just up the road but you will have to check with them about entrance. Going into Vermillion you can go visit the winery, something I need to do yet. Pizza Ranch in Vermillion is one of the best we have ever gone too. The food is always fresh and so delicious. The HyVee store is "OK" ... you can get your needs met there. Walmart is also fairly decent. There are other dining establishments to enjoy if you are not excited about grilling or cooking at the campground. We are hoping the camp hosts are the same as we had in 2024. We enjoyed visiting with them so much. Honestly, I can't wait to get back to this little piece of paradise...that's how I feel about it.
