Safe, clean, well maintained.

We think all the South Dakota state parks we’ve visited are special. West Whitlock SP was clean, safe, and well maintained. We’re from Arizona and this was our second visit. If we pass this way again, we’ll definitely stay again. Good value for the money. Nice that South Dakota does not double the price for non-residents.

Park Roads

We were in cabin #2. In order to get to the cabins. They were on a separate road with a few other camping spots around them. All the other camp spots were on a total different road when you come into the park. The problem with where cabins 2 or 3 are is getting to the bathrooms. You can see them 150 yard away. But when it rains two days in a row you have to walk across wet grass and mud in the grass. In order to drive to the bathrooms. You have to go out of your area and back into the other camping road and drive all the way through the park to the restrooms. It’s nuts how this was designed. I wish the state would take a person there sometime and have them figure out how to maneuver through this maze. For a bathroom 150 yards away. Also in the rain and poor lighting. If it was a weather related evacuation. You would be able to figure it out.

Hot 10 days

Fishing wasn’t good but it was hot! All staff were great! Enjoyed being on the river for a ride!!

Fantastic camping trip

The staff was very polite and wonderful to visit with. The campground was beautiful and the water was great. Staff was out and about checking on campers and cleaning up down branches as soon as the storm had pass. All in all my favorite state camp ground and we will be back next year.

Wonderful trip

We rented a Cabin and we had a great time. The cabin was clean, the a/c was so great to have, and the park was quiet. I would recommend bringing a fly swatter as one was not provided in the cabin. They even provide wireless Internet which we didn’t know about until our last day which was fine; we were busy fishing and enjoying the peaceful evenings.

Great Stay

West Whitlocks is a great place to stay! The staff does a great job helping and keeping the facilities very clean. Overall a great experience! The only improvement would be some tree trimming because there are branches in the trees that look like they could fall at any time!

Great Park

Camp at many state parks and this was by far one of the cleanest and well kept. They cleaned the bathrooms at least twice a day if not more. It was the 4th week and they had flags and little decorations all over.

 Always enjoy West Whitlock . Camping areas and facilities are always taken care of. We go to fish but always take binoculars and camera along you never know what wildlife you will encounter.

Whitlocks review

1. Flies are terrible because they let cattle on the adjacent acreage. 2. Trees around the pads are overgrown and need trimming. 3. No garbage can at the dump station for glove dispisal. 4. Bathrooms were very clean. 5. One of the docks was moved to block access to 1/4 the boat ramp. 6. Need to add the lemon hand soap at the fish cleaning station.

Whitlock

Pro - Plenty of room at the campsite for the camper, 2 vehicles and boat. Con - showers in the comfort station need updating and more water pressure.

I wish these state parks would invest in a better WIFI system. As cellular service is dismal at best. Trying to keep abreast of local weather and information.

Beautiful River

Missiouri River was beautiful, with a beach right off the campsite we didn't see anyone at. Bugs weren't too bad when we went in early May and it wasn't crowded at all. Only downside is the price, with an extra 10$ added to non-locals on top of a relatively high price. If you're willing to pay 45$ for a single night of camping, this is your best option. Also had a little trouble finding the entrance with apple maps

Whitlock Camping

West Whitlock SRA is a beautiful place to camp but cell service is poor. We had a difficult time registering our camp site.
