Big Sioux, Big Fun
Beautiful and pristine clean! The area is well maintained and the bathrooms and showers are the cleanest I have seen in a campground. We enjoyed a comfortable and peaceful two nights close to fun attractions and nature trails.

We had a wonderful experience at the Big Sioux Recreation Are. It is a very nice park with many trails to go on, lots of great trees for shade. The camp sites are very wide and give you lots of room.

Awesome Park
This park was fabulous! We rode our bikes for miles directly from our campsite. The sites were spacious for our 44' motorhome. The areas were clean and well kept. Only wish they had sewer so we could stay for a week! Will definitely stay again if in this area.

Great weekend!
Beautiful Park, with so much to do! Our family went fishing, hiking, and biking. The shower houses and even the outhouses were extremely clean every time we used the facilities.

Family Camping Weekend
The sites are very large and shady. We were able to book 3 sites in a row and had so much space for our gathering. The showers are the nicest of any state park that I have stayed at. Super clean, unlimited hot water and lots of pressure. Movable shower head was great for the little ones in our group.

Enjoyable trip, but facilities could use improvements.
The park is nice and well-maintained, but could use improvements in bathroom and wash facilities. The bathhouse has just two men's shower stalls, and there was a long wait line to use. There is no family bathroom, which makes things more difficult for families with small children. The outhouses do not have lights, which makes them more difficult for night use. A simple solar-powered LED light would be helpful.

Custer State Park is a GEM!
Grace Coolidge was nice, but the spaces near the road were a bit noisy during the day. Quiet at night, though! AND pretty convenient to anything you needed. Really nice bike path from the campground to the store!

Nice Park and Campground
Big Sioux Rec Area was a nice park with a well maintained campground and facilities. It's also conveniently close to the cute city of Sioux Falls. The only reason I gave this review 4 stars rather than 5 is that the road (that GPS took me) into the park was several miles down a dirt/gravel road that was very rough and rutted. It was so bad that although I was going VERY slowly, it loosened some things on the underneath of my camper, and everything inside the trailer was strewn about. I noticed that as I approached the entrance of the park the road was paved there and beyond. I discovered the next morning that the park itself is not as remote as it appeared on my way in, but was in fact adjacent to a neighborhood and had a much easier access from that direction. There is no reason to ever take the Maple St route into the park. Otherwise, I would recommend Big Sioux Rec for camping... great location, and nice amenities.

Most state park cabins we've stayed at, open up the cabin and leave the key inside. So we went back to the office and we were told where the key was and we should have received an email about it. However, we didn't receive the email. The cabin itself was clean and cool.

My only complaint is the campground host rode around in his golf cart at 6-630 am most morning. FYI they are not that quiet. It also feels like they are spying on you. They come to the dump station, they show up at the camp site when you arrive. I saw them twice in the first 30 minutes and I was getting questioned about who I was and what site am I registered to be on. They are not the police but I felt I was being interrogated.

A very nice, clean and well managed campground
We were on a road trip, one night at many campgrounds etc. Found The Big Sioux, stopped and were greeted by friendly staff. The park is exceptionally clean and appears to be well run. I would highly recommend. This is one of the state parks that we would have stayed at for longer, if we were not on a schedule.

Nice place for short visit
We parked at site 42E. It was nice and level and had shade for the late afternoon and evening. The camp host greeted us as we were setting up, which I thought was nice. The hiking and bike trails around this area are nice. Our grandkids visited us so having the playground nearby was good.

Nice, clean and quiet.
We travel back and forth between Michigan and Colorado to visit family. We discovered Big Sioux years ago as it was just a short hop off our path. We've been back practically every year as we make our annual treks. Most of the spots will accommodate our 30' trailer and we've always been able to get one no matter what time of year. Place has always been clean and quiet.

Nice but expensive
Very well kept campground. Good layout and space between sites. However, the overall price after tacking on all the extra fees is out of line with the market. Nightly cost is right around $50 for an electric only site. If you’re going to require that campers pay an additional $15/night for park access then just make it part of the campsite nightly rate.

Loved the park, except for one thing
We love this park! It’s clean and there are lots of good trails, great people and close to family members in Sioux Falls whom we like to visit. The only issue is that there is only a one-drain dump station—there was a long line on Sunday prior to check-out, and we waited 45 minutes to get to the front of the line. For the number of campsites in this beautiful park, there should be at least 2 or more drains.

Park and Reservation review
Visit was great. My recommendation is for the online reservation system. Would like to be able to make multiple reservations at the same time versus having to fully complete one before adding another. Time consuming entering same information each time.

Staff was very helpful….I had accidentally reserved a spot at a different area, showed up at Big Sioux and with Tom’s help, realized my error. Tom said just stay for the night and we’ll figure it out tomorrow (which we did). We were able to cancel the original reservation and rebook at Big Sioux and stayed a couple days longer than we had originally planned.

Big Sioux overnight
It's very early in the season. I do not believe the grounds had a spring clean yet. Which is ok because it wasn't bad at all. Just made me want to get out a chainsaw & wheel barrow to bring the area to its normal beautiful sight instead of relaxing. But again it was not a mess. Just needed a small amount of tidying up.
The staff that stopped by to check our reservation were very helpful friendly and very down to earth. I enjoyed having a conversation with them.

Fantastic park management
Park management is fantastic! Had an issue with an electric hookup that the park staff fixed super quickly, and everyone was a pleasure to deal with (especially John). I happened to encounter a fallen tree on the disc golf course that was also cleaned up right away. They're on top of their game here!

HORRIBLE EMPLOYEES
I was approached by the camp host after I was walking out of the shower and she defecated in the toilet in restroom. She asked for more money, which I replied I would pay directly on government website. She told me she was going to tell John on me. John was standing so close to me when he interrupted me and asked if I had cash to pay him for state fees and was very aggressive. John started following around the park while I was walking to restroom in mornings and then when I called the park to complain he trespassed me for having no permit (I have an annual permit). He is a total pervert. I have still had no follow-up or any information from the park on the unprofessionalism of the staff at this park. We have went on to stay at multiple parks and private campgrounds in SD and no issues. These two are a waste of taxpayers money and I pray they receive treatment or help for their issues.

Very Nice Park
We visit Big Sioux often. It is the quietest and least expensive campground in the Sioux Falls area. The staff is great...always very friendly. The facilities are clean. But! There are locals walking around the campground often with their dogs off leash. And there are other campers, especially on the weekends, that walk right through your campsite to save a dozen steps by staying on the pathways. It is difficult to not say anything.

Expensive Ouch!
First thing is, I think SD state parks should rethink charging nonresidents more than residents, and also not rethink charging an entrance fee on top of the camping fee. This is not very inviting…unless you want to make nonresidents unwelcome. Even the entry fee was $5 higher per day for nonresidents, plus the $10 extra reservation fee.We visited a lot of parks on this trip and this was by far the least desirable and the most expensive with all the fees. The sites were spacious and nicely kept up, but the surroundings were not deserving of the fee in my opinion. The first thing we noticed was the odor. It smelled like a cow pasture..maybe a farmers fertilizer? The restroom in our loop was a pit toilet..no way of knowing when reserving. The main restroom had a strong septic smell on the women’s entrance..except when it was covered up by campfire smoke in the evening. Then when I tried to cook breakfast on our camp stove the bees, flies and biting gnats(no seeums) made it unbearable. This continued until dark. We had to jump on our bikes and they still persisted. I could not wait to leave this place....worst camping experience of our 56 night trip. I only stayed here to avoid a day of rain south of here.
