Great place and the people go above and beyind!
My stay was prompted by a family emergency.
I originally booked Monday through Wednesday and extended my stay to Friday only didn't realize that I had missed reserving Thursday. The camp host (apology for not remembering her name) called and arranged for a different site and even put a hold on a site in case I needed to extend my stay. Can't thank her enough for her kindness and help!

Fun, short notice weekend
The cabin was perfectly suited for a weekend of camping. However, the fire pit at our cabin was about 3 levels too high with the stones around it. The entire pit sits about 2 feet high and it was much too high to enjoy a normal fire each night.

Park staff were very accommodating allowing us to check in early. Cabin was clean, beds were comfortable. Vault toilets nearby were stinky. No lights inside or outside the toilets. Enjoyed the midweek stay, quiet and able to walk around the park without having a lot of people. Firewood was easily available and dry.

Be more transparent about ALL the fees being charged or roll your daily permit fee into the campground fee! I felt held up that it wasn't more clear about the additional fee. Very displeased.

Pretty park. Saw no staff during our stay. The bathrooms were soaking wet so be careful when walking. Between the campground, out of state and associated fees, we could (and just did) stay for way less in the Tetons. We will avoid SD state parks in the future due to all the fees.

Website
The GO website is a pain in the patooter to use. I've never had a more difficult time in finding information for camping in a state.
The questions asked by the website required some personal information that I don't think the State needs to have. I felt violated filling out the form.
I don't understand why South Dakota outsources its State Park Reservations to another state. The fellow I spoke to was not from South Dakota.
The visitors fee to enter a state park seemed REALLY high. I bought an annual sticker because it was cheaper for me. Since the sticker expires in May, and I purchased it in September, it's not really an "annual" sticker. The price of an annual sticker should be prorated based on the month of purchase.
Having said the above, the town of Brandon is great, and the park itself is great. I really liked the stay.
I hate this crap - "All required fields must be entered."

Great Campground
Price of camping was not bad @ $30/night but when you add on the $10/night park entrance fee it was a little steep. To top off a wonderful stay we were leaving and the dump station was CLOSED without warning or notification. They had been having issues all weekend and did not let anyone in the campground know . On Tuesday when we left we were told they pumped the station over the weekend several times so the "weekenders" would be able to dump. What about us "fulltimers" that rely heavily on the dump station. We had to drive 20 miles more or less out of our way to dump our full tanks. For $40/night I would think they could have at least inform us as to the closing... It kind of ruined the whole stay. Get your act together !!!

This is an excellent park to camp in. We were lucky to have great weather. The only thing that wasn't up to par was the lack of lighting in the vault toilet that we were camping near.

Beautiful and pristine clean! The area is well maintained and the bathrooms and showers are the cleanest I have seen in a campground. We enjoyed a comfortable and peaceful two nights close to fun attractions and nature trails.

We had a wonderful experience at the Big Sioux Recreation Are. It is a very nice park with many trails to go on, lots of great trees for shade. The camp sites are very wide and give you lots of room.

Awesome Park
This park was fabulous! We rode our bikes for miles directly from our campsite. The sites were spacious for our 44' motorhome. The areas were clean and well kept. Only wish they had sewer so we could stay for a week! Will definitely stay again if in this area.

Family Camping Weekend
The sites are very large and shady. We were able to book 3 sites in a row and had so much space for our gathering. The showers are the nicest of any state park that I have stayed at. Super clean, unlimited hot water and lots of pressure. Movable shower head was great for the little ones in our group.

Enjoyable trip, but facilities could use improvements.
The park is nice and well-maintained, but could use improvements in bathroom and wash facilities. The bathhouse has just two men's shower stalls, and there was a long wait line to use. There is no family bathroom, which makes things more difficult for families with small children. The outhouses do not have lights, which makes them more difficult for night use. A simple solar-powered LED light would be helpful.

Grace Coolidge was nice, but the spaces near the road were a bit noisy during the day. Quiet at night, though! AND pretty convenient to anything you needed. Really nice bike path from the campground to the store!

Big Sioux Rec Area was a nice park with a well maintained campground and facilities. It's also conveniently close to the cute city of Sioux Falls. The only reason I gave this review 4 stars rather than 5 is that the road (that GPS took me) into the park was several miles down a dirt/gravel road that was very rough and rutted. It was so bad that although I was going VERY slowly, it loosened some things on the underneath of my camper, and everything inside the trailer was strewn about. I noticed that as I approached the entrance of the park the road was paved there and beyond. I discovered the next morning that the park itself is not as remote as it appeared on my way in, but was in fact adjacent to a neighborhood and had a much easier access from that direction. There is no reason to ever take the Maple St route into the park. Otherwise, I would recommend Big Sioux Rec for camping... great location, and nice amenities.

Most state park cabins we've stayed at, open up the cabin and leave the key inside. So we went back to the office and we were told where the key was and we should have received an email about it. However, we didn't receive the email. The cabin itself was clean and cool.

My only complaint is the campground host rode around in his golf cart at 6-630 am most morning. FYI they are not that quiet. It also feels like they are spying on you. They come to the dump station, they show up at the camp site when you arrive. I saw them twice in the first 30 minutes and I was getting questioned about who I was and what site am I registered to be on. They are not the police but I felt I was being interrogated.

A very nice, clean and well managed campground
We were on a road trip, one night at many campgrounds etc. Found The Big Sioux, stopped and were greeted by friendly staff. The park is exceptionally clean and appears to be well run. I would highly recommend. This is one of the state parks that we would have stayed at for longer, if we were not on a schedule.

Nice place for short visit
We parked at site 42E. It was nice and level and had shade for the late afternoon and evening. The camp host greeted us as we were setting up, which I thought was nice. The hiking and bike trails around this area are nice. Our grandkids visited us so having the playground nearby was good.

Nice, clean and quiet.
We travel back and forth between Michigan and Colorado to visit family. We discovered Big Sioux years ago as it was just a short hop off our path. We've been back practically every year as we make our annual treks. Most of the spots will accommodate our 30' trailer and we've always been able to get one no matter what time of year. Place has always been clean and quiet.

Very well kept campground. Good layout and space between sites. However, the overall price after tacking on all the extra fees is out of line with the market. Nightly cost is right around $50 for an electric only site. If you’re going to require that campers pay an additional $15/night for park access then just make it part of the campsite nightly rate.

Loved the park, except for one thing
We love this park! It’s clean and there are lots of good trails, great people and close to family members in Sioux Falls whom we like to visit. The only issue is that there is only a one-drain dump station—there was a long line on Sunday prior to check-out, and we waited 45 minutes to get to the front of the line. For the number of campsites in this beautiful park, there should be at least 2 or more drains.

Park and Reservation review
Visit was great. My recommendation is for the online reservation system. Would like to be able to make multiple reservations at the same time versus having to fully complete one before adding another. Time consuming entering same information each time.

Staff was very helpful….I had accidentally reserved a spot at a different area, showed up at Big Sioux and with Tom’s help, realized my error. Tom said just stay for the night and we’ll figure it out tomorrow (which we did). We were able to cancel the original reservation and rebook at Big Sioux and stayed a couple days longer than we had originally planned.

Big Sioux overnight
It's very early in the season. I do not believe the grounds had a spring clean yet. Which is ok because it wasn't bad at all. Just made me want to get out a chainsaw & wheel barrow to bring the area to its normal beautiful sight instead of relaxing. But again it was not a mess. Just needed a small amount of tidying up.
The staff that stopped by to check our reservation were very helpful friendly and very down to earth. I enjoyed having a conversation with them.
