Great Facilities, Great Help
We've always had a great stay at Oahe Downstream. Whether it's in the modern cabins or in one of the camping spots, the facilities have been extremely well cared for and the campground hosts/hostesses are always helpful. The workers who clean have always been extremely thorough and helpful with whatever we needed. When we have a request, we've always received quick attention. The modern cabins are great for family gatherings, as the buildings are spacious and we have everything we need.

This park is beautiful year-round. Recently was had a family reunion, renting several modern cabins. The space is always clean and comfortable. It is an affordable way to gather without the mess of outdoor cooking or the expence of dining out. Our state parks need more modern cabins.

We stayed at Oahe Downstream campground #3 this visit as campground #2 was full according to the SD outdoor website. #3 is a beautiful campground with good facilities. As far as improvements? The remnants of the cut grass could be blown off of the parking pads in the spots to keep from tracking it into the RV.
My main complaint is with the SD Go Outdoors website. Of all the things SD does right, this web site is absolutely horrible. There is no log in tab on the home page, on my iPad the keychain doesn’t work for user name / password fill. When logged in, if you back out of the page to look at something else like your calendar, when you go back to the page it boots you off and you have to start all over again.
The next thing is that in regards to the modern cabins, the website shows them as rented a lot of the time, yet when I have been at Oahe Downstream it is obvious that no one is there. I ended up calling the reservation number and verified that there was indeed vacancies but the web site showed them as rented. So now if I want to stay at the modern cabins I just call the reservation number.
Please, please make this website easier to use and accurate.

Another great stay
I have stayed at this campground 5 times now. Hosts and staff on site have always been friendly and helpful. Everything is clean, no litter. Bathhouse is always clean! I tried to use the on line system to book my campsite, and that would not work for me. I then called the phone number on the SD parks website. Got my reservation done fast, so I was a ...... happy camper. Sorry, had to make that joke.

Love it but Bees
We have stayed at this campground many times and loved it. This time however, we had a bad experience with bees. We could not eat or spend time outside because of the bees swarming us all the time. Then I got stung. I don’t know if there is any spraying that can be done or not. But the bees really put a damper on our week.

Pricey if you don’t have a state park sticker
I was in Pierre to see family and saw that the campground was only 30 dollars per night which was a pretty good value for 50 amp electric service. Then I found out that without a state park sticker , I had to pay $15/ night more. When all the fees and taxes were charged, I was paying over $50/night for electric only site.

Great experience overall as this is our annual camping trip before school starts so it's more for relaxing and fishing purposes. Only complaint was the cleanliness of the floor in modern cabin. Felt like they had not been swept or mopped in a long time with dirt on our feet. Never had this problem in previous stays but we did let game warden know and he was a nice guy and will fix the issue.

We love campground #3 because we can camp on the shoreline. That being said, it would be great if the Corps would make that a no-wake area. It's hard to fish with the waves coming in so fast. There are jet skis, kayaks and spear fishermen in that narrow area and yet boaters are flying through awfully fast. It would be nice if they waited till they came out to open up.

We had a good trip. But wish the AC in the cabin could go lower. They have a governor that keeps it at 70 deg. That is not low enough for those sensitive to heat. We also had a special needs person totally trash our bathroom out house. Very disgusting. Staff took care of it right away. Very nice they are pet friendly. Wish the docks at the launches were in better condition.

Beautiful park, nice trails, everything was well maintained and there have been a lot of updates. The cabins are also delightful. The online reservation system is convenient and easy, too bad they do not allow you to use it if booking within 2 days of your visit. Instead I had to call the park to make my reservation - unnecessary hassle from this millennial's perspective. But here is where they lost me: the cabin is advertised as costing $60/night. But they also tack on a $10 "non resident reservation fee" and a $6 "call center fee" AND I still had to pay the $15 non-resident entrance fee when I got to the park. So my total cost for one night at this park was over $90. Something about hidden junk fees really does alienate people. Just be upfront about how much you want to charge.

This campground is massive, clean and neat, facilities were 5 star. Beautiful campground. The firewood person was hands down amazing friendly and helpful.

I wish they had a list of what they provided and what we needed to bring. They told us we needed linens but they did have a few handtowels on site, plus hand soap and toilet paper. They also had pots and pans but only one tiny cookie sheet for the oven. They also had a smart TV and wifi, coffe pot and toaster.
But they did not have an indoor table for 4 even though the cabin slept 4. They had an outside picnic table but the flies were terrible so we ate inside. We got there early and called our friends and they brought a card table.

Spot 147E is all dirt around the camper pad. It was dust until it rained and then it's was mud all around the pad. I had to step off the side of my step onto the pad to avoid stepping into the mud.

A wonderful time in Pierre
My daughter and I had a pleasant experience for our second time tenting. We couldn’t put our tent up, but our campsite host, Jack, with a wonderful attitude, helped me to put it up in less than 15 minutes. He even lent us his tent stakes to anchor our tent down. Our experience was greatly shaped by this man, who checked on us and made sure we were ok.
The Cottonwood Trail was beautiful and serene. The green hills across the Missouri River were breathtaking. The tall trees that lined the access road between entrance, campsites 1 and 2, and swimming beach were delightful. One quite windy day I read at a table between the trees and became mesmerized by the swaying branches and leaves in the wind. I sat there for close to an hour, mostly observing my surroundings. It was magical. I was thankful for that table and spot overlooking such beauty.

Great campground hosts. New and additional dump site a big positive. Would like to see hand dryers in restrooms updated. Would like to see the posts with number of pad eliminated and the number painted onto the ground. of the pad The posts make is difficult to get larger campers backed in and have had friends hit the post with camper. The old dump station needs a new end on it for flushing tanks and the new dump station doesn't have an attachment to flush out camper tanks. Need to spray for mosquitoes.

Oahe downstreamCampground 3 older shower house. We stayed a full week and all week long the ladies shower house light would not stay on long enough to shower. They have the lights on motion activated. When you are alone and in the shower house there is not enough motion to keep them on. I had to walk out of my shower and wave my hand 10 times to finish showering ever night. I reported this to the check in staff every day. It was still not working when we checked out 7 days later. They assured me they would get it fixed but it never was. Just set the light to remain on for at least 1/2 hour. If you’re worried about conserving energy fix the show hose that leaks a lot of water while showering. Sorry, this is the first time I have had this bad of experience at Oahe Down stream. The check in staff were very friendly. This was not there fault, it was the maintenance staff that did do the job.

Many complained of how long it takes and entering your birth date by phone needs attention. Had to go month to month over 63 years to enter my date. Very painfull. Timed out many times. I just wanted to say the park staff are great and they go above and beyond to help campers have a wonderful visit. The facilities were very clean and the staff member even came in on a Saturday to help us solve a problem with the lodge. Stayed at Game Lodge campground for Black Hills and CSP spring turkey hunts. Hiked many miles both in and out of park. Had opportunities in the park but couldn't close the deal. Filled my BH tag.

We stayed in early April for a couple of reasons 1) getting in on the Walleye fishing this time of the year 2) campground is not crowded. The cabin and outside area was clean, and lights and A/C worked well. The comfort station had just opened, and it was always clean. I think there may have been two or three sites that were occupied in Campground 3 that weekend, so it was quiet too. This is our third time staying there and we will always come back.

I had no issue with the campsite. My issue was trying to reserve the site. It took me a day and a half and numerous attempts on the website to finally confirm and pay for the reservation. It is a very frustrating system!!
