Winter winds and solace!

I had a non-resident pheasant hunt. The cabin had heat and electricity, that's all I really needed to be comfortable. Lake Louisa has plenty of public land to hunt without having to travel far (I'm not that dedicated of a hunter...it's mostly an excuse to do something besides sit on a couch). I had two nice days and then the wind and snow scoured the earth! It was magnificent! The cabin was sound and cozy. I loved the isolation of having the place to myself. Saw many animal tracks including owl wings in the snow. Was prepared to ice fish, but L. Louisa still had ribbons of open water somehow. I'm glad I went; I'll do it again. Perfect for an old lady like me and my sweet yellow lab...bonus, they allow "good dogs"!

A great spot

I drove up from Dallas, Texas for my first pheasant hunt and my first upland bird hunt ever. I was taking my young bird dog to get on some wild birds for the first time as well (both of our first hunts). We drove in very late and I was worried that we’d have issues getting in. However, the automated system at the gate was useful, and I was able to find my campsite with some ease after I read the map. I stayed in one of the primitive campsites. To my surprise, I was the only individual out there. The campsite was in excellent condition. My one complaint about the primitive site was the outhouse. I’m used to using these forms of restrooms and I am not a squeamish person, however the men’s restroom was not in a very good condition. There was feces on the seat of the toilet rendering it unusable. My suggestion is having some cleaning supplies available in either a lock box, or just in the stall to allow for cleaning of the facilities. Regrettably, I also had a lawn chair stolen from my campsite while I was out hunting. Granted it was the only thing at the campsite, but I would have preferred to have it still. Just an idea, but maybe having a wooden sign to display that the campsite is occupied would have made it seem like someone was still camping there. I decided to extend my stay an extra night at the campsite and also decided to get some firewood. I enjoyed how easy it was to acquire firewood and pay for it. The overall South Dakota Game Fish And Parks website and booking service was very easy to use. I do wish that the entrance fee of the park was included in the campsite reservation. Overall I was very pleased with my stay. I decided on this park after reading about it in some forums about where to camp and have close hunting available. I was able to use OnX Hunt and find spots within a close range of the campsite too. I’ve mentioned to friends and family that I will certainly return to this area as it is incredibly beautiful and also has some great pheasant hunting around too. Very happy to support SD and the conservation efforts, and am very thankful for the experience I got to have in my first SD pheasant hunt.

Lake Louise

A absolute great gem of a state park. I was disappointed in the restroom facilities and being clean. Hopefully we ran into a one off and next trip the restrooms will be better attended.

Poor online service

I cancelled my reservation online due to a medical emergency two days before arrival I still got charged even after I cancelled. There is no phone number to call to confirm cancellation or ask question.

A Hidden Gem

We pulled into the park and began filling our camper with water at the fill station and were immediately greeted by a very friendly Park Manager named Nathan. The park wasn't very busy at all and this was our first time visiting this beautiful area despite living only 70 miles away. Nathan showed us around and made sure we got settled into our site. The park grounds were immaculate, with all areas perfectly manicured and welcoming. The comfort station was spotless and my wife even commented on how pleasantly clean it smelled. You can tell how much pride Nathan takes in making sure the park is beautiful and that guests have a great experience. This place is an absolute hidden gem in the middle of nowhere! We ran into Nathan a couple days later while he was off duty with his beautiful family at the playground and had another wonderful conversation about the park, the types of fish in the lake, and other recreational opportunities at Lake Louise and the surrounding area. I don't know what SDGFP pays this fellow, but they should definitely double it! I have never had a more positive, welcoming experience at a State Park in SD. This trip was our favorite camping trip of the whole summer and we camp between 30-40 nights a year. Everyone in our family wished we could stay longer. Thanks for the wonderful experience! We will definitely be back!!

Relaxing Fall Visit

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Lake Louise for the first time and was impressed by its serenity. Max, my camping partner, and I went on a leisurely hike, followed by a refreshing swim in the lake, which was a new experience for Max. He then required a nap, having been teased by the local wildlife. The area offers a variety of recreational activities, including archery, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and fishing. It would have been very helpful if the hiking trail had signage.

Mixed review

This is one of my favorte parks but this time wasn't as pleasant as usual. The fish station smell affected our stay as it was regularly in the air. It has never been a problem before.

Family camping experience

We had a beautiful and clean campsite located near two very accessible fishing areas. It was very clean and well kept. It was so nice that the camp host stopped by to let us know if we needed to contact them. However the multiple visits past our campsite by the host/hostess and park staff felt intrusive. Tent camping is supposed to be a quiet and family oriented. I appreciate they are keeping the park in working order but don’t need their insertion at 7:00am when my kids were staring their day. However, I would like to commend the local GFP officer, Officer Dunlap, for showing my children a mother deer and her baby, he certainly could have driven past but took time from his schedule to give them this experience. It is a beautiful well kept park but personal space is very limited if you are trying to find a place to unplug and spend family time

Park host

Camp sites are nice some need to have gravel put in them so they aren’t so muddy when it rains. Hope the camp host is friendlier and more helpful to others than she was to us. Very standoffish and not very friendly.

Our stay was ok but there was conflict and the host did not seem to care. She had relatives out there and she hid stuff from the campers to protect them. They were cause havoc w the campers.

xxxxx

This is a great park, small and quiet and people are very friendly. This is not a big deal but the dumpsters are a long ways from the campers and just a thought if campers set there garbage bags by the road if the park staff could grab them and throw them in the dumpsters on there way by as they go right past them to get to there shop. Would just be convenient.
