Beautiful!
The views are amazing, it's such a beautiful park. The bathrooms and showers are so clean! Even the cabin we rented was very nice and clean. Everything is kept up nicely. The campground host came to check on us in the late afternoon to make sure we were able to get into our cabin ok. All in all it was a great experience and we will definitely be back!

The roads in the lower section are extremely narrow with tight curves and one way sections. It can be very difficult to maneuver larger RVs.

The hosts were awesome! Immediately coming around to check on sites and verifying outlets were working. When he was told there might be issue with the 30 amp he changed it out and found the breaker broke too so it was great to have confidence that i wouldn't have issues the hold trip!

Amazing State Park and Facilities!
This is an amazing state park. My family met from western SD and eastern MN and spent three days here. We fished, hiked, and relaxed in the campsites and cabins. The cabins are in really good shape, super clean and comfortable. All of the campsites are maintained well and spaced far enough apart to not feel crowded. We had four children with ages 8-13 and had no issues with them riding scooters around the campground. We knew it was safe and they had a blast!

Lakeside Retreat
We recently enjoyed several nights at Lake Herman State Park, one of our favorite camping spots. We had a cozy site by the water and enjoyed seeing so many young families with children making memories. We were celebrating a 150th family reunion in Colton, SD, so took advantage of staying at Lake Herman for its close proximity to Colton and the air show in Sioux Falls. My sister also lives in Madison. Nice place to visit!

Great Long Weekend Stay
Lake Herman was one of the best State Parks weve stayed in! We stayed on the pond side and had direct water access tona pond FULL of fish! We lived this spot, because we were within easy walks to bathroom, park, and swimming beach at Lake Herman. This was also probably the least traffic I've ever experienced at a state park. Very few vehicles driving around, which helped me feel safe with our young family. We had a total of 4 spots, and it was easy to book for us to all be close together. There were also other spots that offered more space between. Great access to karak rentals that we will definitely be taking advantage of next time. Clean bathrooms, good weekend activities. We loved all the trees and shade, but unfortunately none of that applied to the playground. So it got very hot very fast!
My only gripe is the current cost of wood at the state parks. For more money, you get less than half of what you use to. I know this is standard accross parks and one of the ways for the park to make it work, but this was unfortunate to pay that much for wet wood.

Cozy cabin experience
The cabin was very clean when we came. The air conditioning worked great and kept us cool the entire time. The outdoor space was very comfortable and useful, there was plenty of skate to set up games like beanbags and volleyball nets.

We loved it.
Stayed here to pheasant hunt and just enjoy the Madison area. Park was quiet, super clean and super peaceful. Will have to come back in the summer or early fall to take advantage of the lake too.

Our experience overall was good. The only complaint that I had is that I was not informed ahead of time that there was not water at the dump/fill station. Water was available at the maintenance shop, but that area is not easy to maneuver with a trailer. Also, there was only one comfort station open. I just feel that I received two reminder emails about my reservation so I feel that one of them could have given me this information.
