Lake Cochrane

This campground seems to be getting runned down. They redid the picnic shelter at the beach a few years ago, but that’s the only improvement I’ve really noticed in the 8 years I’ve been camping there. The fill and dump station is only one lane, and it it very tight to maneuver into/out of. The dumpster is always sandwiched up to the lane. It would be nice to make this area two lanes. The beach is terrible. The retaining wall is starting to fall over. The volleyball area is right next to a private property and the net and net stands are so old that our family have to do our own repairs to every year when we get there. It would be very nice if some resources were put into this campground to make improvements. Would be nice to have a dock to swim/fish off of at the beach.

I like the park but really need to trim some trees

The park is nice and well kept up. The trees are a problem for our fifth wheel camper and pontoon with the Bimini top up. We were dragging branches accross the top on both and need trimming.

Under developed park

Cochrane is a nice spring fed lake, but the park is under developed as far as activities go.

Lake Poinsett

Started camping in 2021 and was impressed with restroom cleanliness. Started noticing in 2024 and 2025 the level of cleanliness and maintenance was on the decline. 2026 maintenance and cleanliness at SDGFP Campgrounds is not very good. There was clothing on the floor of the restroom from noon on the 3rd of July through at least 8:45am on the 4th. Also, many dead branches in trees over camp pad.

THE BEST!

This is our FAV spot to camp always! This time it was rainy so we did not get to be outside as much as we would like but everything is always so clean and ready to use!

Very nice park

Overall, the park is well kept and maintained. Camp host came by and introduced himself right after we pulled in. Friendly and helpful. The flotation device by the lake needs to be replaced. It is obviously old and weathered - not sure it would ever work to keep someone from drowning :-( Would be nice if the SD parks would have park stickers like MN and WI state parks depicting their parks. Typically only $2.95 each and we place them on the back of our camper as we travel to different parks.
